The Skagit Early Keyboard Museum (SKEM!) - A Private Collection

At the Skagit Early Keyboard Museum, located in historic La Conner, Washington, you’ll be able to see, hear, learn about, and play on the pianos and other keyboard instruments that Bach, Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Chopin, Schumann, Liszt, and Brahms knew and loved so much.

Curated by historical keyboard artist Tamara Friedman (MM, Mannes School of Music) and music historian George Bozarth (Professor Emeritus, University of Washington), the original and fine replica instruments at SEKM! include concert-quality Baroque and Classical clavichords, a Baroque Lautenwerck (gut-strung harpsichord favored by Bach), and numerous square and grand fortepianos in the contrasting Viennese and English traditions dating from 1795 to 1867 – Johann Andreas Stein (1780), Anton Walter (1795), Nannette Streicher (1804), Johann Fritz (1814), Nannette Streicher (1820) Conrad Graf/Ignaz Bösendorfer (1830) and John Broadwood (1805), Kirkman (mid-19th century), Chickering (1867), Erard (1869).

Upcoming Events - During the months of November and December SEKM! will be offering Student Workshops for music teachers and their students. 2½ hour sessions. Now taking requests for Saturdays, November 16 & 23, December 7, 10 am & 2 pm, and Sundays, November 17 & 23, December 8, 1 pm. $20 Student – Piano Teacher & Parents, FREE. The Bellingham Music Club is heading into its 102nd season.  It promotes youthful musicians with scholarship competition concerts and a regular season of morning concerts with free admission for the community, especially seniors who cannot get to evening concerts.
