New Ensemble: Leonarda’s Circle

North America's newest early music ensemble, Leonarda's Circle – Carla Moore and Linda Melsted, baroque violins, Joanna Blendulf, viola da gamba/violoncello, and Jillon Stoppels Dupree, harpsichord – will perform the dazzling and sensuous music of 17th c. Italy and Germany, featuring works by Uccellini, Marini, Buxtehude, Schmelzer, and the incomparable Isabella Leonarda.

Looking Ahead to 2018

Friday, January 5 at 7PM:  All That (Baroque) Jazz – Improvisation and the Birth of Virtuosity

At the turn of the 17th century, a new style of music began to push the boundaries of instrumental writing, demanding more from both musicians and their instruments. A significant amount of this new music was based on improvisation on popular songs of the time, much like American classic Jazz. Baroque violinist Aaron Westman and baroque bassoonist Anna Marsh join organist Henry Lebedinsky for a fun, illuminating, and even breathtaking exploration of this repertoire, including music from Italy, England, Germany, and Poland.  

Weekend of March 17 at 7PM:  Exciting “Festival” of Events

The Anacortes Arts Foundation will work with creative, versatile, world-class cellist Juliana Soltis to produce concerts, a minuet dance class, and children's activities.

Friday, May 11 at 7PM: Ingrid Matthews & John Lenti

Violinist Ingrid Matthews, recognized as one of the country's leading period instrument performers, will return to Anacortes with John Lenti, lute, theorbo and guitar performer extraordinaire.
